Review of Hartry's Travel Svc by Joe Cooper

FYI - Since 1971 our family has owned the original homestead of Morris and Charlotte Hartry when they lived on Con. 3 , Lot 27 of Sandfield township on Manitoulin Island, Ont. between 1879-1889. Morris and Charlotte Hartry immigrated from Reach County (Port Perry), Ontario and took out 100 acres from the crown along with their five children. They built a sod shack in the winter of 1879 but when spring came they realized that they had settled on flat rock with very little top soil. However, they cleared the land and for 10 years tried to farm the land. From my research there were nine children born on that lot. They finally moved on Selkirk Manitoba in 1890. One daughter remained; 16 year old Charlotte who married George Turnbull. Some of this information came from her records. Whenever I walk the property, and see the numerous stone piles I am amazed at the fortitude of the pioneers to survive. I believe you are an ancestor. Please pass on to the Hartry's that may be interested. Thanks Joe
